http://mollyandjonsfastframe.com/2011/01/mirror-mirror/comment-page-1/ I am a little too excited to begin preparing for Galentine’s Day. What’s Galentine’s Day? Oh, you beautiful, tropical fish. No one can explain it quite like Leslie Knope from Parks and Rec.
Here it is in writing for those who totally missed out on hearing Leslie explain it in typical, peppy, positive, Leslie-Knope-style.
Is there anything better than ladies celebrating ladies? I doubt it. This is the second year I’ll be gathering a few friends together to eat delicious food, drink mimosas and encourage one another, celebrating our strengths and abilities. Last year, I created little cards for each person to write down something encouraging about each lady there. Everyone went home with a little card listing positive attributes that shine through from being a good mom to having the best legs in the room (you know who you are).
No husbands, boyfriends or children. We love them, but Galentine’s Day is about empowering and celebrating one another.
So, get ready ladies. This year, February 13th actually falls on a Saturday, so it’s perfect timing for a full weekend of looking and feeling fabulous. Go out, stay home, brunch, cocktails, who cares, just do it! Feeling lonely and in need of encouragement? Email me (OliviaLPolk@gmaill.com), you can come to my Galentine’s Day. No woman left behind!
Not sure where to start? Check out these fun Galentine’s Day cards available on Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls website. Brit + Co has some fun printables you can download to make your brunch table festive. I know I will be downloading some of these printables from Pizzazzerie. I’ve also come up with a couple simple printables you can download for free here. If you have any trouble, let me know and I’ll try to wrangle with the internet a little more to upload a PDF.
It’s true, these decorations (and the holiday itself) comes from Parks and Rec which may seem problematic if your guests have never watched the show (although, now is a good time to start, it’s on Netflix). Last year, I had only one friend who had seen the show and knew some of the nonsense I was referencing. But every single woman knows the language of encouragement with no backstory needed.
I’d love to hear of your Galentine’s Day festivities! If you have any fun traditions or pictures from your day of celebration, please email me at OliviaLPolk@gmail.com.
